Do I need to be fluent in Dutch to join? No, as long as you can hold a basic conversation in Dutch (A1+), you're welcome.
I'm a native speaker. What is expected of me? Nothing more than showing up and being a patient conversation partner. You don't need to teach grammar or prepare anything, just chat naturally and help create a comfortable space for learners.
How do I sign up? You can join the waiting list via the sign-up form on the home page. Once we can pair you with a partner, we'll confirm your spot by email.
Why is there a waiting list? To keep the groups balanced between learners and native speakers, we confirm participation once we can form pairs. We'll get back to you as soon as a spot opens up.
How much does it cost? The taalcafé uses a "pay what you can" method.
What happens during a session? You'll be paired with a few conversation partners for about an hour. We provide ice breakers and topics to get you started, but you're free to talk about whatever you like.
Where is the session? Check the details of the next event for the location.
Are food and drinks available? Food is provided. Drinks can be bought at the venue.
I cannot join this time, will there be other events? Yes! Check the next dates in the Upcoming Dates tab. You can also sign up to the newsletter at the bottom of this page, so you will be updated as soon as we organize another event.
I can't make it anymore, can I just not show up? Please don't. We pair you up with other people, so a no-show creates a problem we have to solve on the spot, and it can affect the experience for your speaking partner(s). We understand plans change, so just send us an email to let us know you can't make it.
Any other question, doubt or concern? Feel free to send us an email at noordtaalcafe@gmail.com
